Back safe home tonight from a wonderfully fun trip to San Francisco & Napa Valley with our dear friends the Jenningses.
Highlights:
*Bocadillos Tapas Restaurant. Jason + I walked to this little place the first night in town and had...maybe the best meal of my life?
*Chinatown was really fun. A friend of Jennie's had recommended we stop in the Vital Leaf Tea Shop, and we were so glad we did. We sat at a bar and had a tasting of several different teas and listened as the woman described the qualities of the tea and its effects. We bought some of their "blue" tea and I'm having some right now. Ahhhh.
*Wine tasting at Ceja Winery. We spent 2 hours with an amazingly friendly fellow named Ariel who walked us through their wines, and shared the history of his family with us. They began as grape-growers from Mexico who worked hard to buy their own land and now have a beautiful winery that is still family-run and so, so, charming.
*Our trip to see the Full House houses. The Full House theme song was definitely the anthem to the trip. We also fanned the obsession flame by pulling up some reruns at night on Jason's laptop. Do be do bop bop ow!
*Riding the cable cars. We had a variety of cable-car-operators who were having fun at their job. One guy made a kind of beatbox out of the bell that had everyone on the car kind of bobbing their heads and another operator had a catch phrase that he repeated probably 10 times from our trip from the Wharf to our hotel. Union Square or Chinatown? "YOU MAKE THE CALL."
Low Moments:
*KU's loss to Michigan State. We met some Austrailians in the bar we watched it at who consoled the visibly depressed Jason by saying "Sorry about your mates, mate." I think they really were sorry.
*The crazy amount of homeless people we encountered daily. :(
*We had a completely ridiculous meal our last morning in San Francisco. The little cafe we stumbled upon for a "quick" breakfast happened to be run single-handedly by a little man who spoke no english, possessed not one of the skills necessary to be a cook, waiter, or cashier- and yet, was entrusted by some buffoon to do all these duties at once. Bacon? Bagel? Sheesh.
*One of the ladies who gave us a tour of her winery became snooty at the end of our time with her when it became clear she expected a purchase out of us (In addition to the $10/head tasting fee). "I've spent a lot of time with you today," she prodded. Needless to say, we left there with kind of a bad taste in our mouths.
I posted our pictures here on Facebook.
Overall, it was a great trip! Glad to be back home though. We missed Wilbur + Violet.
