8x8 acrylic on wood
I'm not much of a painter. Yet. But I was so thrilled when the opportunity came along to create a piece of art for a first-ever show at Hallmark, called Hallmarkers Give Back.
It's genius. Participating Hallmark artists created an original piece of art to donate, which was auctioned off with silent paper bids over a period of two weeks to other Hallmarkers. Also for sale were 50 boxes of limited edition sets of prints of every piece in the show, each signed and numbered by the artist.
The show generated $8500, which was split between three great causes: The American Heart Association's Go Red for Women; The Susan G. Komen Foundation; and Children's Mercy Hospital.
The experience was really great for me because I haven't painted since college, and apparently I needed an opportunity like this to get me going again. It also inspired me that the women who came up with the concept for this show found a way to do good and bless others with something they love to do and were doing already.
Plus, I kind of love bluebirds with all my heart.
